In normal circumstances, if a UPS needs to be taken out of service, it causes a power interruption to the connected equipment. This may not be ideal for mission critical applications where the connected equipment should never be without power. In such an instance, a service bypass panel is highly recommend. This panel allows a UPS to be disconnected from the electrical circuit without interrupting power flow to the connected equipment. During the time that the bypass panel is on "bypass" the equipment is getting its power directly from the wall outlet and a UPS can be safely removed and serviced or exchanged.
